Used For:Long-term control of asthma and relief of daytime and nighttime symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

How it Works:Blocks the action of leukotrienes, which are chemicals that cause inflammation, narrowing of airways, and production of mucus, thereby easing breathing.

Usage & Safety Dosage:10 mg once daily in the evening for asthma or allergic rhinitis, or at least 2 hours before exercise for prevention of exercise-induced asthma.

Side Effects:Headache, abdominal pain, thirst, and dizziness. Rare reports of mood/behavior changes.

Drug Interactions:Phenobarbital and Rifampin may decrease Montelukast levels. Consult your doctor if taking other asthma or allergy medications.

When Not to Use:For treating an acute asthma attack (it is a controller, not a rescue inhaler). Known allergy to Montelukast.

Precautions:Continue taking corticosteroid inhalers as prescribed. Do not change dosage without consulting a doctor.

Warnings:In rare cases, can be associated with serious neuropsychiatric events, including suicidal ideation. Report mood changes immediately.
