How it Works: Inhibits the influx of calcium ions across cardiac and vascular smooth muscle membranes, resulting in vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and reduced blood pressure.
Usage & Safety Dosage: 5 mg to 10 mg once daily, or as directed by a physician. Take with or without food.
Side Effects: Edema (swelling, especially in ankles), headache, fatigue, dizziness, and flushing.
Drug Interactions: Caution with Simvastatin (statin). May increase the concentration of other blood pressure medications.
When Not to Use: Known allergy to Amlodipine or other dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers. Severe hypotension.
Precautions: Use with caution in patients with liver failure or severe aortic stenosis. Do not stop treatment suddenly.
